Waxing Tips, Questions and FAQ's
Of course waxing can be painful, but these
hints will help make your waxing experience as
pleasant as possible. Taking ibuprofen 30 to
60 minutes before waxing may cut the edge
(as long as it is not contraindicated by your
doctor) . The day that you come in for
your waxing appointment, limit your caffeine
intake as it can stimulate the nervous system
which only serves to make you more anxious!
Another tip for all of my female clients, try to
schedule your appointment within the first 2
weeks after you have ended your cycle because
this is when you are probably retaining the least
amount of fluid and will be the most comfortable.
All waxing can be done at any time, however
keeping these tips in mind will make your
experience as comfortable and as painless as
possibleand that is the objective.
Before Waxing
Please allow two weeks or more of growth before
your appointment. The hair should be no
shorter than ¼inch. This will ensure less
tweezing and a smooth , clean wax. Before
waxing do not apply self tanner, moisturizer,
or any abrasive body or facial scrubs. Do
not expose skin to the sun or to tanning
beds prior to waxing. Stop all use of
products that exfoliate or dries the skin for
approximately 1 week prior to waxing to prevent
tears, scabbing or burning. If there is any
doubt don't use it or don't wax.
Some products that are contraindicated
for waxing: Accutane, Retin-A, glycolic
acid, alpha hydroxy acid, Tazorac
Avage, Differin, Strivectin, Renova,
ProActive, Avita, benzoyl peroxide and
salicylic acid. New products come out every day,
butthese are some that I'm aware of that may
cause problems with the skin and waxing.
Please check with your doctor if you
are unsure.
After Waxing
Do Not expose skin to sun or use a tanning
booth for at least 24 hours. Do Not use
perfumes, deodorants or cosmetics for at least
12 hours. You may start exfoliating as soon
as it is comfortable to do so when tenderness subsides.
It is difficult to predict how skin will react, no
matter how many precautions are taken. If you
are considering having a waxing service for a
special event, consider having this area waxed
one month before the event as a test. This will
give you an idea of how reactive your skin will
be. If there is no adverse reaction, you can
have the area waxed one week before the big event.
What is Brazilian Bikini waxing?
A brazilian bikini wax, (also known as the
landing strip" or the playboy) removes all
the hair from the labia and between the
buttocks leaving only a small amount of
on your mons pubis.
The full monty, (also known as
the Hollywood or the sphinx) is
removing all of the hair entirely. You
may ask yourself why anyone would
choose to do this. To be honest the
pain isn't as bad as you may think
and the results are undeniable. An
extreme bikini wax such as this should not
be attempted at home! I use a low-temperature
(or hard) wax for the least amount
of discomfort. The wax has a taffy like consistency
and is a stripless wax. The wax shrink wraps the
hair and doesn't adhere to the skin making it as painless as possible. All hair
should be ¼ long in order
to achieve a smooth
clean wax.
